WHAT IS CitizEn?

Everyone has heard about or knows someone who lives in fuel poverty. No one should be in a position where they are forced to choose between heating or eating, but sadly over 10,000 residents in our city find themselves making this choice.

We believe that this is unfair and that’s before the annual price rises from the big energy companies! Those who pay for their electricity and gas on a key (usually those already in fuel poverty) pay a higher rate than those on direct debit – which compounds the problem. It appears to be getting easier and easier to fall into fuel poverty.

Your Labour run council are aware of this, and have decided to take action to ensure there is a fairer option for everyone in the energy market.

Southampton City Council has now launched CitizEn – an energy company run by your council.

Leader of the Council, Christopher Hammond commented:

‘CitizEn will put people before profits and reinvesting surpluses back into energy efficiency projects for residents who’re living in fuel poverty. Where we collectively spend our money makes a difference and together we can work towards being a city where no one has to choose between food or fuel.

CitizEn is a local council-run company which provides reassurance to consumers and will always work to put people on the cheapest tariffs – ultimately saving money.

Any profits that are made will be put back into the pockets of customers, through reinvestment in local efficiency initiatives and keeping prices low. We’re able to achieve this by partnering with ‘Robin Hood Energy’ that is the successful company, setup by Nottingham City Council.

We are a party that listens to its residents and works towards a fairer city for everyone.
