St Georges Day in Southampton

Yesterday saw Southampton's first ever St George's Day festival. Organisations and residents including John Denham MP and Councillor Satvir Kaur came together to organise events across the city celebrating the best of England.

From bulb planting to bhangra dancing there was a huge amount of activity going on in Southampton yesterday to celebrate St Georges day and everything great about England. The day culminated in a festival of song, dance and poetry hosted by John Denham MP and Councillor Satvir Kaur.

John Denham who helped organise the event said "Like many people, I’ve always felt proud to be English, and I’m proud to be at the heart of today’s festival.....I'm delighted by the way communities across the city have backed the St George's day festival, celebrating all that is good about this great English city. I'm sure this will become an annual event, growing in size every year.”

Let us know if you did anything yesterday to celebrate St Georges Day and email over any photos:
