Labour Councilor Darren Paffey, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, reacted to the strong performance of Southampton schools for year six SATs results:
“It’s great to see such strong improvement across the provisional SATs data, so congratulations to pupils for their achievements, and to teachers and parents for their hard work and support.
There are some really promising results, showing that Southampton schools achieve favorably in comparison with national performance, and indeed in some areas we outperform those national averages which is very good news.
At the same time, we recognise that these tests are one snapshot of pupils’ achievements, and there are many other ways that teachers are working hard to help get the best outcomes for our city’s children, so I want to recognise all the progress that’s happening, in addition to SATs.
Our mission to drive continuous improvement in our schools continues and we’re ambitious to improve even more in the coming year.”
