200 hours, 1 month, thousands of conversations

We're now just 1 month away from the local elections and I've made a pledge to spend 200 hours knocking on doors before election day on Thursday May 22nd.

Anyone who has canvassed for even an hour knows that my feet are going to hurt a lot. I'll be doing eight hours a day, five days a week tramping the streets of Southampton. I feel like I'm embarking on a pilgrimage!

So why I am doing it? Well, we know that it's an understatement to say that people are fed up with politicians. They think we're all the same, and as a result voter turnout is going to be too low. It strikes me that the only way to rebuild trust is to go around and meet people face to face, listen to their stories and explain how much you genuinely care.

Luckily, we have a great set of council candidates. That means I can look residents in the eye and tell them they will genuinely be better off if they vote Labour next month. The one thing that will keep me committed to this is if they and other volunteers join me. Luckily we have a lot of those too!

I will try and keep this blog updated, but if you would like to come along with me or ask me to knock on your door, please do get in touch. You can email me on rowenna@southampton-labour.org.uk. I'm looking forward to seeing you!
